When you finish with
a treatment how do you know you are healed?

How do I know I healed from grief?
a great loss 14 years ago that tilted all
my perspectives...so how do I know I am healed?

using resources every now and then from professionals
is huge.  I used writing and energy therapy and a few sessions
of counselling over the years.
I am healed because I can look back and remember that time
and what I was like and what hurt most and what helped the most

I am healed also from the neck tension and headaches (not migraines) because
I am using tools I learned from chiropractors, yoga, physiotherapists
and energy therapists.

I am healed the best way I can be
because I am always learning new things
about me, my marriage, my family and
other relationships and that the biggest learning
was through animals.  For me it is the horse.

I make sure I do activities that I love
and hiking, horse riding and making art
are my go to peaceful events.

How about you?

I bought these colorful runners the other day to start off
fall and to make sure I wear good foot wear as much as possible.
These runners match all my outfits.

i am entering my story slam application for October's Story Slam at the library
I have decided on a story it will be titled

'What The Health?!

here are the rules...

  • Five minutes to tell your story. After 5 minutes, there will be a penalty. After 7 minutes, you will be gonged.
  • Story must be original and unpublished.
  • You can read from a script, or just go up and tell a story. Competition starts at 6:30 pm. Names will be drawn to
  • determine order of story telling. No props.
  • Limit of 10 story tellers.
  • Entries will be accepted on a first come first serve basis.

Story Slam competitions are also held in Edmonton and Toronto. (Yorkton is quite
trendy putting this on)
Last year I talked about 'Rocky - my first solo ride' it was an experience
as their were 7 judges and they are quite prestigious. Just to note in the middle of my
story last year all my cue cards fell to the floor and I just had to carry on!  It worked out
fine.  My score was 7.6/10.

This is one resource that has helped me with my neck pain and headaches

Yoga for Neck and Shoulder stiffness

Just in case you have a sore neck and stressed or just stiff in the upper body - this is great!

Adriene is a great "go-to" for me.  She is on the internet and has 100's of videos.  This one is only 15 minutes.  I like her voice and her personality and explanations....and her dog.

who is your fav yogi-relaxer-calming voice-sincere- helper?

inflaming

I feel like this red leaf
in the middle of its calm colorless
surroundings it is like a flare

that's my tendonitis
and I have had a war
with it

there are certain physical ailments that are painful
and Tendonitis is definitely one of them

mine is in the shoulder/pecs on the right side
pain I could not tolerate
ended up in emergency
3 days after my cortisone shot
and anti-inflammatory meds

they gave me strong pain killers
and stronger anti inflammatory meds
injected my arm with an anti inflammatory
and I went home
and at least slept all night
but I grew worse with nausea and vomiting
to the point I threw out those pain killers

 slapping on my essential oil
Marjoram and Peppermint
a 20 minute relaxing stretch with my foam roller

Advil extra strength for muscle
and joint pain at bedtime only
and a few regular ibuprofen during the day
and ICE it 4 or 5 times a day!

I can't handle those chemical pain killers and anti-inflammatories
however I am trying an over-the-counter Voltaren Extra Strength gel twice a day as an added
 anti-inflammatory ointment boost

let's see what next week brings?

once again the neck

lookout window helps when
feeling sorry for myself
'cause I jammed up my neck
using a resistance band (can you believe it)

hurting bad and hoping the accupuncture needles
saves me,
at home I am putting on
 peppermint oil
and hubby came home with Aleve
and Lakota roll on pain relief ointment
this is helping quite a bit
also
I am doing my physio emergency exercise
foam roller
breathing exercises to relax my neck
meditation (body scan)
Dr. Ho

hope I sleep well tonight!

neck meditating

slowed down today
checking out my neck
working on meditating
to ensure relaxation is available
this is my favourite window to sit by
it faces south and it's in my creative room (love)!

Doctor prescribed bedtime med to help relax
the tightness in my neck.  Try it for 30 days he says,
I've lasted for 11 days and tucked the bottle away for now.
It helped moderately which is pretty good.

I have overstretched and injured the muscle(s) somewhere
in my neck many many moons ago, tends to get
so so so tight and then it tightens up my shoulder muscles
and bam!  I got problems.

feels so much better today
my beachbody workouts are helping strengthen
my shoulder and pecs but the danger is
keeping the weights too heavy (only 1 pounders right now)

just an issue that has slowed me down alot
in my life

wrote a prayer this morning so I can be assisted in
keeping my neck muscles relaxed

that's my nit and grit complaint today
being aware of it and having support from my
doctor and therapists helps.

yoga class tommorrow will help it even more

any peeves of grief in your body
that keeps coming  back?

chore duty

Mantracker had minor shoulder surgery a week ago and has a right arm sling on for 6 weeks
(he is left-handed so is adapting pretty well)

In the morning I awake and go out and open the corral gate to where the
hay feeder sits.  We let them graze on that until about 5 pm.  Then we are back out
to let them out and give them water and a super treat of oats!  I have to help Mantracker with opening and closing the gate and hauling water.  We do not have a well so there is no water bowls for them to drink from.  Some day we may pipe in from the house water to ease up the manual chore of hauling water.  (Rome was not built in a day)

The weather has been fantastic and I enjoy these horse duties twice a day.

as for Mr. Mantracker (Hubby) he is doing well and starts physio therapy in two weeks.
He dislocated the right shoulder last July and the tendon had removed itself off the shoulder bone.  Sounds painful but he has no pain with this shoulder surgery fix.  (things happen...)

you won't understand

the unconscious mind
is also the subconscious mind
it sounds better to call it
subconscious

Since I was 21 years old
I have had back, neck, shoulder and sciatic pain, eczema
in that order

I spent $800 on treatments for pain in the
first quarter of this year
I just tallied up my receipts and
mailed the claim to our benefits provider
today.  This is going to not happen anymore!

a few weeks ago I realized that I was saying no to
canoeing and horseback riding because I did not want the pain to
come back again.  You see it just kept coming back.  The shoulder pain and
immobilization and my left leg sciatic were always there ready to
attack.  After 3 treatments with the chiropractor for low back adjustments
and previous 6 massages with Sabrina this year I was good as new.

But it slowly starts to come back a bit a a time.
I have been horse riding 5 times and went canoeing once in the last 2 weeks and my TMS
is an awareness and the cure is knowledge!

This book
Healing Back Pain: the mind-body connection by D. John E. Sarno
(look him up)

was discovered by Carol Tuttle who is the genius behind
Dressing Your Truth/Living Your Truth  profiling who I follow
She wrote about healing her own back pain that was very
debilitating and she discovered this book a few months ago

You will not believe it!
I have TMS
Tension Myositis Syndrome (muscle tension syndrome)

You will not believe it or maybe even understand this book.
The subconscious of my brain did repress my anger and anxiety and this unconscious
part of my mind decided that muscle/body pain is better than the unnecessary emotions
harbouring and it gets repressed.  Well I am in control now and every time my back starts to ache
or my shoulder gets tight I yell at my brain!  I think about what has been making
me anxious ; it has been a very subtle emotion , so far , and there are several subtle emotions that come up
once I am aware I start ignoring my aches and hurts and laugh at my brain.
The ache and tightness goes away.

I know you don't understand it.
It is a a good read.

Neck-Shoulder-Physio-Germany

here I am
back with the neck and shoulder
which is a life long history book
if anyone cares to read it! lol!

I have lucked out and I am
sharing my gift from the Universe.

I casually booked a massage before I left for Texas
as the plane seats and waiting and sitting tenses me up.
I walked into the spa and a young woman with
a strong German accent welcomed me and
she said I will be giving you your massage.

As the massage begins and the injured and tight shoulder blades
reveal themselves and my neck with its left bulge on the side
are prominently fighting back with her touch.

Surprise.... she knows how to fight problems like mine
and she explained that she is here from Germany and trained as a
physiotherapist there and then came to Canada with her husband 2 years ago.

She cannot work as a physiotherapist in Canada until she rewrites exams and pays $7000.00
So ..voila...she is doing massages instead.

the moral of this story is that she has brought 80% movement back in my shoulder and
the bulge on my left side of my neck has been released and tucked back into
the cervical verterbra where it belongs.  I will be going weekly to let her
move everything  back where it should and to make sure it stays relaxed.

Relief! and a new therapy friend!

(sharing my favourite foam roller neck and shoulder movements below)

a stronger valentine

keeping my heart red and strong
for Valentines
walking 20-30 minutes 6 days a week
taking Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract for cholesterol health
changing my lifestyle and foods to lower cholesterol
my blood sugar is under control with Metformin
I have been taking high blood pressure medication for many years ..
this all adds up to a program to reduce my risk of heart disease

When I got to Yorkton and we were getting settled in I noticed my blood sugar was erratic and my digestion of foods
was not good.  I went to a new doctor and signed up with her as my family physician,
I am now being checked regularly every 3 months for good blood lab results.

a heart healthy sip of wine at bedtime is good too (perk)
i get a bottle of free wine when I assist my friend in
bottling her wines.

My shoulder/neck is much better and I have persisted every morning with
my shoulder rolls (Alexander).  It was very difficult and  shoulder stiff while doing these shoulder rolls but I went slow and stopped every time it stabbed a sore muscle at me.
I am doing yoga leg stretches and a quarter downward dog pose every day
and I attend a basic flow yoga class once a week.

This is the best phase in my life and I want to
enjoy it!

shoulder mantra

Im not in alot of pain really....it's just annoying ..
" I am writing to release the tension in my neck muscles and collarbone muscles and pecs and the muscles around the pecs and collarbones   Release all my feelings and uncomfortableness in my energy that has caused this tension and this painful immobilization on the left arm.  I am releasing all the tension in my head  I am releasing the scalp and skull muscles that form around my head and that is holding all of 2014's changes and annoyances.  I am no longer able to hold that year of tension in my head and neck  It no longer serves me to do this.  I am allowed to nourish my muscles in my scalp and my shoulders.  Clear, release, clear the bad energy."

The scalp muscles and pectoral muscles are releasing.  I am allowing my body and my scalp and skull to re-energize.  It is okay to let go now  I am allowed to nourish my head and scalp and pec muscles.  Breath and it will go away slowly.  Breath and all is good now

ALEXANDER SHOULDER ROLLS

those 3 treatments are what work for me as a UNIT.  All three must be kept on my payroll to
keep me doing the things I love and to erase and ease any immobilization and pain from the area

I am still working on releasing the shoulder and arm malfunction which means I am not able to
lift the left arm without support from my other arm at present. I am functioning well with it lately because the pain is gone from the tip of my shoulder joint.  The tightness has stayed mind you

anyone else out there with a similar problem?

malfunction

my shoulder malfunctioned this last week
and I am heading to my NUCCA appointment on Nov 16
just had an acupuncture treatment yesterday
it has helped.  It seems since my trail ride Oct 25 and my Aquacise
classes this last month has not been liked by that injury of mine that
forms a lump on my neck.  My neck and inbetween my shoulder blades is
TIGHT (like it feels like you are touching a bone not a neck muscle)

so heat and ice and neck stretches and yoga stretches and
shoulder rolls until I get to my appointment on the 16th.
(i stretched while fencing this summer alot)

What a gift my injury is?  It keeps me humble so when I start having
too much fun and getting in shape WHAM ...back at ya girl!

I use NUCCA a few times a year as it has benefited me greatly with my injury
I can still horse ride and yoga.  But it does not like me doing laps using the front crawl and Aquacise with those weights and moving arms up and down while jogging.  NUCCA website where I receive my salvation and it keeps pain at zero most times and only may need a massage 4 times a year if that; has been the best way to heal my injury these past 3 years.  You have to stretch, yes, you have to have fun, yes and then you go back to your NUCCA doctor and she/he checks your alignment of your shoulders to
see if the treatment holds.  You do not always get an adjustment when you go.  If you are still balanced according to their equipment readings then you know you have maintained the treatment.

It started out with once every 6 weeks I would drive to Calgary and be checked on how
the treatment is holding up.  Now I go once a month in Regina.  The NUCCA doctor M. Hopf is her name and she comes into
Regina once a month on a Sunday as the Saskatchewan patients are pretty high numbers and she wants to start her own practice here.

I remember this photo of me stretching a few years back, this was before I learned
things about necks and shoulders.  I can actually do this stretch without pain in left rotator now.

week 3

the cold has let up today, but it is very windy but only minus 7 this morning.  I went for a walk on the University Park walkway behind the Aboriginal University and then I trekked back and I felt good to have finally gotten a nice long walk in to start the week.  We are getting our moving storage company to pull out a couple of important boxes like all our income tax papers and Tom's personal ID and spare hearing aids..etc.  It is costing us $115 to pull this out but we need these boxes.

oops...here is Summer's paw print (sideways)

I am now registered for a restorative Yoga class for one month, the neck and shoulders are having a difficult time relaxing and settling into this new lifestyle so this class is called RELAX AND RENEW.....and is one and a half hours.  For people with injuries or pain, etc...... Bodhi Tree Yoga
I am sure it won't hurt me to take a few of these classes
kinda stopped doing yoga for many years do to the over stretching I can get myself
into trouble doing that so this class sounds safe.

it is a good thing that there are so many options now to keep a body and mind
fit for this life that eventually takes a toll on muscles and other ailments.

have a crazy Christmas week as it should be!

diffuse diffuse...

I was introduced to essential oils from a facebook friend and I attended
a information evening and was sold on all the health successes that the women their
were experiencing.  It also gives me something to enjoy and spend quality time
on since retiring.

I know health is an issue for most of us:
I take cholesterol (Lipitor)
I take (Altace) for blood pressure
and my blood sugar and hand eczema I am using
YL Sulfurzyme vitamins
I use peppermint oil and eucalyptus oil for my seasonal allergies instead
of Reactin or Alleve or Benadryl over-the-counter-drugs.

I am doing a progressive change to chemical free living, but it is very
progressive and it is dangerous to abruptly switch as I believe we need the
doctors and alternative naturopathic doctors and our nutritonists to work on our health.
Dr. Gary Young is the man in motion on these oils and products and he created
the selling of oils from his plant farms in Idaho, Utah, Ecuador (total of 7 chemical free plant farms where they slowly distill or extract the oils from the plant with the technical monitoring of when the plant is ready to farm from- seed- to- oils- to- bottle)

I have several things for my booth I am setting up in Sept at the Market Square such as
soaps with essential oils and pendants and car air-freshners to use and I want to keep promoting because it is fun to meet and greet people and present different products.

I am investing in bringing in some pendants for diffusing and car air freshners to keep that pure healthy air wherever you are.  These are for the Market Square YL essential oils
booth in Sept.  I  will enjoy doing this...it is so entirely different than what I have been
doing for the past 21 years
I had a great time at the SC Fair booth with Leah and other distributors and sharers of their love of these pure oils.  I learned a lot about what the
young, middle-age and old are looking for in alternative health:

I had men with severe foot pain, muscle pain, young adolescents who want
to do a 5 day cleanse and be healthy, I had a young man who worked in the mine up in
Saskatoon and he gets so low on energy and wanted to know if there was an oil
for that, he purchased a bottle on-line, and the biggest seller was Lavender oil, and Peppermint Oil and my favorite oil Valor....

I love pendants and bracelets,

check out some of these I will be bringing in...maximum price is $15 and
you can choose your oil to drop on the pendant and smell it all day as you wear it
young girls will love this?

Terra-Cotta Pendant Diffusers

These wonderful handcrafted terra-cotta pendant diffusers are perfect for taking your favorite essential oil scent with you all day.

This lovely pendant has a polished stone-look surface, and hangs from a black cord. Each pendant is handmade and unique. The back of the pendant has a special absorbent surface meant to diffuse essential oils. Enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy all day long, wherever

Apply one drop of your favorite essential oil to the surface of the decorative terra-cotta medallion, and hang it in your car, bathroom, office, or other area to diffuse the fragrance!

I am making some soap bars with the essential oils in it and will
have that to sell as well

lots to be creative with and lots for me to get ready and make the soap bars

I usually have my diffuser going during the day too, while I am in the house working or
napping....

my oils that work best for me when diffusing

smells fresh and divine!

walking on the ocean beach

sounds like a lovely post
about walking along the ocean shore
getting tanned
I did that with my hubby
every day on our Dominican holiday
BUT

ya big BUTT..my SI joint on the right side
of my middle back got so tight
due to the uneveness of the walking partly in the
water and partly on the sand, I literally suffered
for 3 days before we came back home

gotta love my tight muscled old body of mine
it does not take much (not funny)

I came back and had to see a chiropractor
I went to Kevyn Kristmanson in Swift Current
and after two treatments and alot of stretching my back
I can say tonite it is recovering supremely
also with some help from my Infrared Sauna a couple
of times.

lying around relaxing and walking and just "being" can
be painful if you do too much ha!

toughin' the cuff'

my muscles have seized up again on my rotator cuff
here is what i do when it causes me concentrated intense pain (once or twice a year it comes on)
massage therapy - does not work for me
physio - you need a trained physiotherapist/doctor/chiropractor to receive this treatment called (IMS) (clic on this word to find out how it works)
my physio person ,
Cindy at Central Ave Physiotherapy in SC

using a foam roller on my upper back and shoulders

upper shoulder/arm stretching

relaxing in epsom salts

take a day off from long periods of computer work

as I become more mature in my years these aches and sprains are more serious as it leaves me incapacitated.
