8 years wise....

"Summer", our dog, with the pumpkin coloured fir and his strong protective/guarding instincts is doing fine. I realize the new food from our vet {Hills Prescription Diet J/D} has helped him alot; BUT ... he is very much a 3 legged dog except he doesn't whimper in pain anymore and can hop up and down steps with 3 legs quite easily. It is painful for Brian and I to watch him favour his one leg..hopefully when spring finally is here and the warm summer comes upon us I am thinking his arthritis/joints will work better. Our dog is 8 years old and this we have learned from him...{alot of you have read this poem....it's a classic for me}

Things We can Learn from a Dog
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy ride.
Allow the experience of fresh air &
the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.
Let others know when they've invaded your territory.
Take naps & stretch before rising.
Run, romp & play daily.
Eat with gusto & enthusiasm.
Be Loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent,
sit close by & nuzzle them gently.
Thrive on attention & let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On hot days, drink lots of water & lay under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around & wag your entire body.
No matter how often you're scolded,
don't buy into the guilt thing & pout...
run right back & make friends.
Bond with your pack.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
