soap is a homemade staple
This morning I cut my soap
mould open to slice the new bars to store in a
box for a few weeks.
I have been making soap for 2 years
and hubby and I really love it.
We both are very sensitive with
lotions and soaps from retail providers.
This recipe I use consists of
olive oil, coconut oil, almond milk;
I put in a few sprinkles of
YL essential oil Northern Lights
Black Spruce in the mixture. This oil is
a smell I love and great for the skin.
a smell I love and great for the skin.
It is science though.
Making soap requires Lye.
Also making glycerin to use for
making soap requires Lye.
After 6 weeks of
storing the new made soap
the Lye saponifies which means it is no
longer in your soap. Even though you don't like
the idea of it Lye is what makes soap.
the idea of it Lye is what makes soap.
you need some equipment:
food weigh scale
food thermometer
soap mould
soap cutter
hand held immersion blender (or smart stick)
a big pot set aside for just
mixing your soap oils and liquids and lye
this is the best part of making your own soap
you can choose your own moulds. I choose the
long wooden mould I ordered on line as
it makes one big long log and I can cut my own
size of bar.
I have flopped one new recipe I tried as
the oil I used was sunflower and canola oil
it never took the canola oil. That was my error
in not checking the oil before using.
I now have a good almost never fail recipe!
part-time hobbies
starting a new part-time job
July 6
and will be
working with my high-school buddy to boot!
She gave me the heads-up on this job
at a local hearing centre
I will be contacting people about future
hearing clinics and booking appointments
I did not enjoy the flower shop, I did not make a connection
with any of the staff so "..no fun no workee".. (that's my rule) and
with any of the staff so "..no fun no workee".. (that's my rule) and
no more cleaning flowers, filling pails of water and hauling dirty vases
around and washing them
The experience is always good and i got something from
my short flower shop career - I now know that flowers are delicate
and alot of work and expensive!
It was a soap making morning for me today. I make soap every 3 months. It's bright yellow color
comes from the Almond Milk I use instead of water along with Coconut Oil and Olive Oil
We love this soap a Kirkville!
the canoe has been used once so far
we have a lake across the highway from our
place called "Leech Lake" (not for swimming in!). Brian and I felt God's presence that
Sunday morning as we we glided on the water, enjoying the scenery and surrounding
countryside.
What to do with pictures sitting in a box? I had an old lampshade that is now
displaying some older photos. I bought a new lamp stand at Value Village and put on
some trim of Washi tape around the shade. This was fun and every time I turn on this lamp
in our guest bedroom it takes me back to younger days!
soap = chemistry
i made some soap,
well the soap lady worked with me to
make the soap
and I supplied the main ingredients
and she supplied the equipment
ingredients:
lye
almond milk
olive oil
valor essential oil
coconut oil
the dangerous process of Lye into the milk/water is what
I needed to learn
this is the soap bar (pretty)
this is my instructor Catherine (thank you)
I needed an expert to help with the chemistry process using Lye
we layered it with a colourant and the YL essential oil
the wooden mold we poured the soap solution into made a long
loaf and we sliced it into bars after about 10 hours of sitting in the mold
I am needing some equipment to make soap myself
like a kitchen digital weigh scale, and a handheld stick blender, soap moulds,
2 meat thermometers, ice cube trays to freeze the liquid before Lye is added to it, etc
It now will take 2 months before we can use or sell these bars so the Lye is no longer in the
soap
back to Chemistry class!
